Next, it’s time to get your legal affairs in order. The best place to start is my DIY Independent Contractor Agreement. You can download it instantly (well, the process takes about 15 minutes) to define the terms and conditions of your VA and protect your business.

Basically, this is a legally binding virtual assistant contract template (or web designer contract or any freelancer contract) that sets out the terms and conditions of your virtual assistant services for you. they are

Employee, meaning you work at your own pace, on your own time, wherever you want. (Pajamas are a plus.) It doesn’t offer them employee benefits like health insurance, paid vacation or unemployment, but they can work for other companies.

Once you have obtained the contract template and filled in the blanks (names, payments, etc.), submit the contract to the VA. Once they sign, you do the same and ensure you get a complete, signed virtual assistant agreement for your records.

But before you close your eyes and think: “I don’t have time to make a contract, I need a VA to start working like yesterday!” Please explain to me *why* it is necessary to sign this document before starting to work for your company.

Of course, you hope to be able to trust everyone you bring in to work with you. But things can go wrong for all kinds of reasons, some of which are completely unexpected events or personal emergencies beyond your control. A legal contract protects you and the business you put your blood, sweat, and tears into. By laying out the practical aspects of your expectations with the VA, you will both be successful.

Remember, even the best VAs need some time to get up to speed, and that’s okay! Take things slow and allow the working relationship to grow slowly so you can do great things as a team.
